Fevre-Fevre 2022 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses
Fevre-Fevre 2022 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses
The Wine
If you're a fan of Chablis but haven't yet purchased the current vintage, now is the time do NOT wait for long! Let me explain...
For many top-tier climats there will be no 2024 vintage. A vigneron in Chablis enjoys grape prices set by the region's global reputation, but they still survive at the whim of mother nature. So imagine waking up to see the double-whammy of frost followed by hail the size of ping pong balls. The combination was ruinous to most of the vines.
So... we bought as much of these 2022 vintage Chablis as our cash flow allows. And we recommend the same strategy for lovers of the famed mineral-driven version of Chardonnay!
Fèvre’s 2.3 hectare plot within the Chablis Grand Cru “Les Preuses” is always considered a top example of this renowned climat, mostly thanks to vine age within Fevre’s particular plot.
The Winery
In case you're not familiar with Domaine Nathalie & Gilles Fevre, they're one of Chablis’ most recognizable names, branches of Fèvre family have been producing wine in the region since the early 1800’s. Nathalie and Gilles Fèvre are in the village of Fontenay-Pres-Chablis, where they operate a Domaine that is quite large by Chablis standards with over 100 acres under vine in total including a large proportion of classified holdings (Grand Cru Les Preuses, 1er Cru Fourchaume, and 1er Cru Mont de Milieu).
You’ll see several different label iterations from this Domaine in the market (when we signed them on we had options), and our version ("Fevre Fevre") pays tribute to the Fèvre family legacy by referencing ancestors Marcel and Blanche.
Go as big as you can afford to given the upcoming challenges with future Chablis supply. You'll be hard pressed to find a better Quality-Price-Ratio in Chablis' 1er Cru and Grand Cru categories.
