Before we describe the cheese, we'll take a moment to introduce a couple of new words you'll find handy to know:

Fuertaventura: One of the Canary Islands with a population of about 124,000 people... and just as many goats! The goats are a symbol of survival and tenacity, as they survive on dry and salty shrubs that are often the goat's only source of water on this arid island. They are also local celebrities, appearing on countless postcards and IG posts from tourists.

Majorero: The unique type of goat's milk cheese from Fuertaventura. 

The 'Smokin' Goat' is a Majorero cheese from Fuerteventura that is similar to Manchego in texture and nuttiness, but with an added smokiness. 

About a week after the initial production, the cheese is smoked using smoldering beech wood.  The cheese is naturally high in fat and protein with a consistently creamy texture.  

It is a mild, crowd-pleasing wheel with light smoke that doesn’t overpower the flavor of the cheese. A great introduction to the flavor of the Canary Islands, this cheese is highly recommended for use in a sandwich, omelette or on your next charcuterie board!
