Post & Vine 2020 Mule Plane Carignane
Post & Vine 2020 Mule Plane Carignane
The Wine
This is the first vintage of the Mule Plane Vineyard Carignane. The vineyard is located in the Mokelumne River AVA, a subset within the larger Lodi AVA.
Mule Plane is a historic, 5-acre site managed by John Shinn and is planted to own-rooted Carignane (i.e, not grafted) that are nearly 100 years old. The site is 'Lodi Rules Sustainable' certified.
On the palate, the wine is balanced, bright, and laden with juicy flavors of red cherry, cranberry, thyme, and a touch of white pepper. Mule Plane gets its name from the mule-drawn plane that John Shinn’s grandfather regularly saw his uncle using to level the field before planting.
82 cases produced. 13.5% ABV
The Winery
Post & Vine was founded by Rebekah Wineburg and Erica Schubert-Kincaid in 2012. They each fell in love with wine after visiting Napa Valley and being awestruck by its, well, its 'everything'. Years later, by 2005, each had found their way into the wine business and their paths crossed while working in production for Rudd Estate. The two shared a passion for historic vineyard sites in northern California. While their friendship was immediate, it took another seven years before they started Post & Vine together.
Today, Post & Vine continues to share that original dream with the world through their artisanal, terroir-specific wines. They exclusively work with sustainably-farmed old vines and implement a meticulous, low-intervention mentality in the cellar. The resulting wines are joyful, honest, and deeply speak to their place of origin.
“With a focus on small historical vineyards that have been managed sustainably by committed stewards, Post & Vine wine aims to tell a great story with every glass.”
