The Wine
100% Garnacha from vines planted 80 - 150 years ago. Each plot is pressed and fermented separately, spending about 20 days on the skins. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrels, where the wine ages for 5-6 months before bottling, just to soften some of the tannins.
This wine will appeal to fans of the Grenache/Garnacha grape, but who find the wines of Priorat a bit too big and opulent (and pricey!)
The Winery
Some people have told us this winery sounds Greek, but it's actually Spanish, from a region close to where the Atlantic meets the boundary of France and Spain. Incredibly sustainable, the winery prides itself on their regenerative agricultural practices:
- Shreds the vine trimmings and returns to the earth
- Grape stems are as well
- Grape must is sent to a distillery for use in medical-grade alcohol
- Cover crops are grown between the vines to prevent erosion, secure nutrients andencourage microbial growth.
- A large flock of 500+ sheep graze the vineyard all Fall and Winter, trimming interrow crops and fertilizing the vineyard
- Electicity is sourced from a nearby wind farm
