Marino Abate 'Lapa' Nero d'Avola Sicilia

The Wine

100% Nero d'Avola, a wine native to Sicily. Grown outside of Marsala in hillside vineyards with clay soils which lend power to the wine, as the roots struggle for water in this dry and hot environment. This struggle results in smaller berries, with a higher ratio of skin to pulp. Such small grapes lead to dense wines of great color and flavor concentration.

Aromas and flavors of dark fruits - cherries and black plums - with notes of dark chocolate and tobacco, with added complexity from savory and herbal notes   

The Winery

Marino Abate is a certified organic winery in Marsala, Italy, just outside of Sicily. Wanting to reaffirm their connection with the area, they named the wine 'Ariddu', the Sicilian name for the Grillo grape, which also means “cricket” in Italian (note the label image).
