The Wine
Producer tasting notes: "This wine has evolved perfectly showing a deep ruby colour with shades of orange. Its nose is persistent, full bodied and shows a lot of mature fruit, dominated by the Tempranillo grape. Its taste is round, smooth, fresh, full of body and persistent." - Lopez de Heredia

I first tasted the gems of Lopez de Heredia at a "Wine & Spirits Top 100” tasting in San Francisco. This impressive event features the top producers from around the world, selected by the team at Wine & Spirits Magazine using a double-blind format to assure objectivity.

Of all the amazing wines I tasted that night, the Heredia wines were standouts (I’ll always remember their 1961 white wine, a marvel like no other I’ve tasted. Current bottle price? Just over a grand). Yes, these are wines that age well, grown by Spain’s top producer who is, frankly, a bit mystified and humbled by their global stardom and stratospheric scores, as they’ve been producing the same wine, in the same way, for generations.
