The Wine

"Placeres Sensoriales (sensory pleasures) is a wine about the fun and joy of wine. The winery describes their reason for being as follows:

"Approaching a glass of wine that stimulates all our senses, that is our objective. Made in an open concrete tank, 80 years old, going back in time, remembering a childhood aroma of fresh fruit and licorice from when my grandfather took me to the cellars and I was barely old enough to hold a bottle of wine in my hands.

That penetrating and indelible aroma is what modern oenology has forgotten and what we seek to transmit in this young Artesano wine. Fresh and expressive of pure fruit, very soft and elegant on the palate, with the slightest sensation of effervescence."

The wine is 100% Tempranillo and 100% low-tech! Foot-trodden grapes fermented in ancient concrete vats in a winery in use since the eleventh century. They deploy a semi-carbonic style for a portion of whole clusters that were not trodden under foot. This lends a sense of bright red fruit notes that add a 'gulpable' element to this deep red wine.

The wine is pure juicy and aromatic joy! Savory blackberry and sweet leather notes on the nose, with fresh acidity, flavors of black cherry and tart plum, licorice, and thyme, buoyed by lifted carbonic notes. Delicious!"~Distributor Notes

The Winery

A small project from a very big power couple in Rioja - Pecina Pedro Gil and Maria Ruiz. They started this project after trotting the globe as big-budget wine consultants as a way to get back to their roots. There is nothing fancy about these wines other than the infinite pleasure they deliver for the money.
