Fogliati 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo
Growing up in an agricultural area, even a globally prestigious one such as Barolo, must be difficult for a restless youth. Social media puts the world at everyone's fingertips, and the lure of big city lights must be more tempting than I can imagine.
Such is the story behind Fogliati. Founded in 1950 by the Fogliati family, they grew and sold grapes to some of the biggest names in the region. But Annalisa and Guido, the 3rd generation, the founder's grandkids, wanted nothing to do with the family farm, seeking professions in other parts of the world.
After enough years spent in Miami and New York behind a lawyer's desk, Annalisa realized their ancestral home held more of an allure than it once had. So in 2016 she headed back to their childhood home, hired consulting winemaker Gian Carlo Colombo, and began making world-class wine from the family's estate fruit.
Organic vineyard practices, native yeast fermentations and all their wines are aged only in large Slavonian botti that soften the wine without adding notable oak influences.
