The Wine
I hesitated to include another red from the South of France when adding the Cotes-du-Rhone from Dom. des Romarins, but the two offer insightful contrasts into Provencal terroirs, especially when sampled next to each other.

The Winery
After a long hibernation, the Domaine des Peyre was entirely renovated in 2014 by new owners Patricia Alexandre and Georges Antoun. Patricia spent ten years as the Managing Director of Gault Millau (the rival restaurant guide to Michelin) so she was kind of a big deal even before joining the ranks of winery owners - glorified farmers, sure, but very posh farmers!

One of the oldest properties of the Luberon, the vineyard was restructured and new winemaking facilities were installed, allowing the Antouns to combine the best of the old and the new.

Sitting on the Via Domitia, with its links to a wine-making tradition going back 2000 years, the winery harbors a magnificent 9th-century chapel and recent archaeological excavations have uncovered the remains of Roman houses. The farmhouse itself, dating from the 18th century, is thought to have been built on the foundations of a Gallo-Roman villa.
