Domaine Bonnet-Cotton 2021 Les Grillés Côte de Brouilly
Domaine Bonnet-Cotton 2021 Les Grillés Côte de Brouilly
Called Les Grillés, or The Grids, because of the layers of pink, yellow, and red granite that make up this 1.5 hectare parcel. Les Grilles was Pierre Cotton’s first single-vineyard wine and undergoes full carbonic maceration for a textured and rich rendition of cru Beaujolais.
Motorcycle mechanic turned vigneron? You bet. Pierre Cotton’s wines are just as badass as his prior bike-focused career. Cotton and his partner Marine Bonnet are two of Beaujolais’ freshest new faces, already shaking things up for the better. After two years spent in the Loire Valley, Cotton returned home to his native region and purchased one small hectare of vines in the Côte de Brouilly. Since 2015, Cotton has added not only a new partner (and adjustment to the domaine's name, now Bonnet-Cotton) but also a few hectares to his holdings. He's also implemented organic farming and more minimal intervention practices in the cellar. The resulting wines are outrageously delicious and extremely limited in production. Don’t hold your breath - they'll disappear quickly.
