The Wine
There are three types of Lambrusco grapes used in the Emilia-Romagna region, and the best of the three is the Sorbara. This sparkling wine is made from 100% Sorbara Lambrusco, and it deseves a place on your table. And not just for celebration either - the wine pairs well with a wide variety of dishes due to its zippy acidity.
The bottle, you may have noticed, is wider than most. That's because the minds behind Cantina della Volta like the wines, and the bottle shape, of the Champagne region's "Special Club" wines, each release of which undergo a blind evaluation and voting by the group before allowed to be bottled as a Special Club wine.
The Winery
(Dave's note - to picture where this winery is located, Emilia-Romagna runs West to East, just above the calf of the 'boot' that is Italy.)
The winery is now run by a 3rd-generation winemaker with an infinite passion for and curiosity about Champagne, Christian Bellei has partnered with Angela Sini and Giorgio Angiolini to rebuild his family’s legacy on new, contemporary foundations. Together they set out to apply the Champenois Method (aka Metodo Classico) to their entire production, which includes a series of astonishing 100% Lambrusco di Sorbara, and an outstanding line up of certified organic Chardonnays & Pinot Noirs grown in the Apennines.
