Special Event: Introduction to the Wines of Sicily, with Winemaker Marco Sferlazzo

Wed, Nov 20 (6:00 - 7:30 PM): Montclair Event, "Wines of Sicily with Winemaker/Owner Marco Sferlazzo", Porta del Vento. A seated tasting, $45/person

If you've been paying attention to the wine wags who love Italian fermentations, you already know the wines of Sicily are enjoying a moment. But much of the bruhaha is focused on the wines of Etna, and Sicily offers much, much more.

This seated tasting is an opportunity to meet the charming winemaker and owner, Marco Sferlazzo of Porta del Vento. Under his guidance, the winery has become a guiding light for low-intervention winemaking.

Join us for this 90-minute, seated tasting and discussion of Sicilian wines paired with Farmstead's cheese and salumi platters.

About Winemaker Marco Sferlazzo

Before creating this winery in 2005, Marco was a pharmacist in Palermo. When he transitioned to grape-growing, he brought a fervent dedication to organic and biodynamic farming.

Disheartened by a farmer’s decision to uproot aging Perricone and Catarratto vines, Marco intervened by acquiring his vineyards. Nestled at 2000 feet in elevation in the steep hills of Camporeale, a tiny village 25 miles south of Palermo,

Porta del Vento is home to 43 acres of 50 year-old vines just 15 miles from the Mediterranean Sea. His vineyards are exposed to relentless, cold northern winds (hence the name “the door of the wind”), which help mitigate the hot Sicilian days by bringing the temperatures down at night. Porta del Vento’s wines are delicious, vibrant wines that offer remarkable concentration, balanced acidity, crystal-clear varietal character and low alcohol.
